The expandable structure is making good progress at the Hudson Yards megaproject
One of the most unique projects rising at the Hudson Yards complex is a six-story performance and exhibition space known as The Shed, and photographer Field Condition recently stopped by to grab some shots of the structure rising above the High Line.
Construction has moved forward pretty quickly since we last checked in with the project in early August this year. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, a firm that was recently profiled by architecture critic Alexandra Lange, in tandem with the Rockwell Group, the structure will be engineered in a way that allows it to expand.
A video released by the design team last month gives a great sense of how the structure will function once it is complete, but essentially the structure will be built with a glass canopy that can be extended to create an additional performance area.
This project too, like a majority of the developments at the Hudson Yards complex is being developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group. It was originally scheduled to open in 2017, but that date has now been pushed back to sometime in 2019.
