The triplex penthouse returns to the market sporting a new look

Cary Tamarkin’s wavy West Chelsea condo was the talk of the town with its $1 million one-bedrooms when sales launched in 2008, but in the years that’ve passed the building’s been surpassed by a slew of other ritzy High Line condos and forgotten in the wake of Tamarkin’s most recent project at 10 Sullivan Street. Once a hotbed for flipping activity, things have all but calmed down at 456 West 19th Street—except for the interiors of Penthouse I, which has just returned to the market asking $7.8 million and sporting a brand new look.

The penthouse last sold for $5.7 million in 2010 to an anonymous buyer, and has since undergone a fancy-shmancy redesign by Brazilian architect Felipe Diniz. Diniz brought some serious drama into the triplex—check out the “befores” here—with custom-covered walls and a jarring black and white powder room. The penthouse has two private outdoor spaces covering 1,167 square feet, and 2,353 interior square feet all spread out over three floors.

The penthouse was last listed in 2013 asking $7.5 million.
